A lone tree at sunset in the tallgrass prairie of Northeast Oklahoma. There are stretches of the tallgrass prairie where there are virtually no trees. This is mostly on purpose due to prescribed burning of the grass which rids the prairie of dense undergrowth and also helps ward off invasive cedar and other types of trees. Historically this was accomplished by lightening strikes causing unimpeded burning.
