The photos in this series came to my mind as I was traveling on a safari in the Serengeti in Africa. The camps we stayed in and particularly the Pioneer Camp, reminded me reading about 18th and 19th century explorers and adventurers seeing flora and fauna for the first time. Often times they would capture their sightings with illustrations. Later artists would accompany these expeditions to further document these animals. Rather than create the usual images of wildlife on a safari, I decided to take my actual images and recreate similar presentations of the animals as those of the early illustrators.
